Lash Extension 101: FAQ and Dos and Donts

Lash Extension Dos and Donts
I have always struggled with strip lashes and getting them to look just right on BOTH of my eyeballs. Often times, I would get my left eye and struggle to get my right, or vice versa. They say practice makes perfect, but after a while I kind of just gave up and relied on an extra few coats of mascara and a lot of hope. A few weeks ago I got lash extensions and I absolutely loved them! I wanted to share my experience with you guys if you were wanting try this beauty trend as well.
I got my eyelashes done by Amanda at Natural Esthetics located in downtown Raleigh. Dos and Dont’s
Dos
Do use a mascara wand to keep your lashes separated after sleeping or washing your face. I noticed that when I would wash my face or shower my lashes would clump up, similar to my natural ones. I would use my fingernails to just separate the lashes so they would not get tangled, a mascara wand would have helped immensely!
Do clean your lashes after wearing makeup. Avoid waterproof makeup if at all possible, but make sure you fully clean your lashes after doing an eye look. Baby shampoo has been recommended as an amazing gentle cleanser and can help get rid of any build up that may have occurred.
Don’ts
Don’t get your lashes wet within 12 hours of getting them done. This means everything from washing your face to swimming and anything in between.
Don’t rub your eyes! With pollination season upon us in good ole North Carolina, it has been a struggle for me not to rub my eyes while battling with my allergies. As time has gone on I’ve been more aware of touching my eyes and how I handle my lashes (you don’t want to rip them out).
Don’t use and eyelash curler. Honestly in more cases you will not need one and the curler could end up pulling your lashes out.
Now that we have covered a few Dos and Donts here are a lot of questions I had before I got my lashes done, and questions I’ve been asked since sharing my experience.
FAQs:
Did it hurt?
It literally did not hurt at all. The glue does give a strange sensation but I would not say it was painful.
How long did it take?
I have a pretty full lash line and my lash extensions took 2 1/2 hours. It usually takes any from 2- 2 1/2 hours. This was honestly the hardest part for me. Just making sure that I was sitting still and not moving my eyes. Takes way more effort that I originally thought.
How long do they last?
Approximately 2-3 weeks. I am on week two currently and my lashes still look pretty good. They are not as dense as they originally were of course, but I got a natural length and look so every day they look more and more natural.
Are they worth it?
Honestly, I would say that eyelash extensions are worth it. I’ve recently adapted the habit of not wearing makeup Monday through Friday. I love being able to wake up and wash my face without having to do anything else makeup wise. My lashes help me look put together even if I’m running around doing errands. If it is in your budget you should go for it! I hope this post helped you decide if eyelash extensions are right for you! I am loving my lashes and if you get some I hope you love them as well.
